Artwork protection
The protection of artwork against vandalism or theft is a fundamental concern for museums and art galleries. While glass cases or barriers provide good protection, they create a visible barrier between the visitor and the artwork and disturb the exhibition experience.
With the arrival of 3D cameras it is now possible to achieve a comparable level of protection without any visible barriers. The space around a valuable exhibit can be constantly monitored and a virtual show case can be created. In the event of an unauthorized approach an immediate alert is generated.
The artwork protection solution by customers of MESA use an SR4000 camera from MESA, which is typically mounted on the ceiling above the artwork, and connected to the server-based video management system. With over 25’000 pixels it is possible to reliably detect any intrusion from a distance of up to 10m. Alarm zones for typical use cases of hanging or standing artworks can be configured with just a few mouse clicks, and the sensitivity level can be adjusted in order to avoid false detections.
SR4000 cameras are engineered for continuous 24/7 operation and they produce high quality 3D data even in challenging light conditions in the vicinity of sunlight from doors and windows.
